By Mel Harmon, Rules Committee Chair
The process for filling a vacancy in office in the County Central Committee is prescribed in a combination of laws (ORS 248.035) and our bylaws (Article III, Section 7). Teddy resigned as of the end of the October 10th Central Committee meeting, and our bylaws call for us to hold a special election at our next scheduled meeting, on November 14th, to fill the office for the rest of the unexpired term,.
As explained at the meeting, anyone may self-nominate for the position; any PCP may nominate another person for the position with verification that the nominee wants to serve. Nominations should be sent to Stephanie Nystrom at ViceChair2@Multdems.org, and if nominating another person, please copy the nominee on the email. If you are nominated by another, please verify by contacting Stephanie, as soon as possible, that you wish to serve in the office of Chair.
One need not be a PCP to serve as Chair (but of course it helps); current elected and appointed PCPs are eligible to vote in filling this vacancy (ORS 248.035 (3). Proxies are not allowed (ORS 248.045); you have to attend the meeting to vote.
Nominations for inclusion on printed ballots will close seven days before the meeting, that is, at 7:00 PM on November 7th. Nominations may also be made from the floor at the meeting for write-in candidates.
Nominations will be posted here as they come in, and we will notify PCPs via email of all nominations received before the closure of nominations for inclusion on printed ballots.
You can contact me at Rules@multdems.org if you have questions about this process.
